Some companies incorporate coaching and mentoring as stand-alone tools; others use them to supplement formal training. Regardless, because they often utilize internal talents and resources, these programs can be a cost-effective way to improve employee performance.

Tips from the FlashPoint Team--HR Resolutions for the New Year!
It hardly seems possible, but 2010 is upon us--and of course the new year brings with it the customary attempts to improve oneself and turn over a new leaf. We asked FlashPoint's consultants for some ideas of good HR-related resolutions, and here is what they suggested (both in seriousness and in the spirit of fun):
- I resolve to audit my I-9 files and make sure they're compliant.
- I resolve to lead by example when it comes to wellness initiatives.
- I resolve to get out of having to plan the company picnic each year.
- I resolve to attend at least three professional development events in 2010.
- I resolve to review our job descriptions for FLSA compliance and to make sure that they're up to date.
- I resolve to build my own personal growth plan.
- I resolve to improve our performance management program.
- I resolve to finally convince the VP of sales that it is not appropriate for him to call his administrative assistant "his girl."
