Managing Diversity
Overview
The population of the United States is becoming an increasingly diverse mix of people. Racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity are increasing rapidly and this diversity is reflected in the workplace and our local communities. Diversity is not limited to race and culture, of course. Gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, physical appearance, economic status, education, lifestyle, marital status, and personality styles are some of the other diversity dimensions that require sensitivity and skill. Awareness about how to handle these potentially challenging issues will greatly enhance a person’s ability to interact effectively with others.
